About the Collection

The Defence of Guenevere digital collection digitizes the twenty-one original watercolors created by Scottish sisters Frances and Margaret Macdonald that were bound into a copy of the 1892 Kelmscott Press edition. Influential members of the Glasgow art scene, the Macdonald sisters drew from Victorian and Celtic influences to create distinctive and striking Art Nouveau illustrations of Morris’s adaptation of Arthurian myth. This book was donated to the Rare Books Collection by Thomas B. Lockwood.
