Black Student Union Collection
About the Collection
The Black Student Union (BSU) at UB was founded in 1967 and recognized by the Student Association in 1968. In 1969, it counted 1,000 members. Since its founding, the goals of the BSU have been preserving and perpetuating Black culture, dignity, and self-awareness, supporting and advocating for Black students and faculty, and increasing admission of Black students into the University at Buffalo.
Twelve periodical publications have been issued by the BSU and are the primary record of the activities and history of the organization. This collection also contains other documentary evidence of the organization’s activities, including photographs, event flyers, governance documents, and newspaper clippings.
