Description
In August of 1978, after heavy rains, numerous holes and metal pieces started to appear in the disintegrating clay cap over the former Love Canal, Niagara Falls, New York. The image shows a large hole in the ground surrounded by dry, rocky soil. The opening is irregularly shaped, with loose dirt and small stones scattered around its edges; photographed by Penelope D. Ploughman.
