Although buried for centuries, excavations in the late 19th and 20th century uncovered this extraordinary example of sculpture affirming the creation of life. The monument complex of Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was constructed roughly from 950 to 1150. The complex fell into disrepair for several centuries. It was subsequently excavated by British, Indian and others.
