Title
Basket makers, Old Delhi marketplace
Description
These men, it should be noted, have taken up a task usually carried out by women in developing countries: making baskets. Note as well in this, as in preceding pictures, the number of persons involved. India has a serious issue of underemployment, by the standards of industrialized economies. Labor-intensive rather than capital-intensive development thus offers [according to many] the most rapid, equitable way to spreading economic benefits.
