Delhi served as the capital of Moghul-rule India This major Muslim empire was established in northern India early in the 16th century, conquering existing Sultans and other rulers [including the rulers of Delhi]. The minaret of the Jama Masjid Numa, as the mosque is called, dominates the old city. [Jama Masjid Numa means "the mosque commanding a view of the world", and the name Jama Masjid is a reference to the weekly congregation observed on Friday' . Up to 25,000 worshipers can be accommodated within its courtyard.
