Crucifixion, Fran Angelico, Dominican Monastery, Florence

Fra Angelico painted a wide variety of holy scenes in the San Marco monastery during this residency there (1436-1445). Because of his skill in painting, he soon became known as "The Blessed." Fra Angelico's natural details marked a significant break from earlier, more stylized Christian art.
