Utworzenie Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w 1968 r. było ukoronowaniem wieloletnich aspiracji mieszkańców tego regionu do posiadania własnej wyższej uczelni humanistycznej. Posiada on cztery wydziały a studiuje na nim prawie 6 tysięcy młodzieży, w większości mieszkańców Śląska. Na zdj.: uroczysty moment inauguracji pierwszego roku szkolnego.

The establishment of the University of Silesia in 1968 was the culmination of perennial aspiration of the people of this region to have its own university humanities.
