ZABYTKI SZTUKI I ARCHITEKTURY POLSKIEJ

Najcenniejsze zabytki architektury polskiej, wspaniałe skarby narodowej kultury były w latach wojny i okupacji hitlerowskiej planowo grabione, palone i niszczone. Najeżdzca obrócił w gruzy dziesiątki zabytkowych pałaców i zamków, setki innych obiektów. W sumie w latach 1939-1940 zniszczonych zostało ponad 50 proc. ogólnej ilości zabytków architektonicznych. Między innymi 7.535 obiektów zostało całkowicie zniszczonych, a 11.932 uszkodzone lub zdewastowane. W gruzach legły 23 pomniki architektury romańskiej, 1.937 gotyckiej, 811 renesansowej, 3.800 barokowej. Do tego należy dodać więcej niż drugie tyle zabytków pochodzących z póżniejszych okresów. Władza ludowa, już w kilka miesięcy po wyzwoleniu kraju przystąpiła do szeroko zakrojonej akcji odbudowy. Przy Ministerstwie Kultury i Sztuki utworzono Naczelną Dyrekcję Muzeów i Ochrony Zabytków. Rozpoczęto też poszukiwania zagrahionych i wywiezionych dzieł sztuki. Np. słynny Ołtarz Mariacki — dzieło Wita Stwosza, portret „Damy z łasiczką" - Leonarda da Vinci, „Krajobraz" - Rembranta, widoki Warszawy - Canalleta odnalezione zostały w Bawarii. Wiele cennych zabytków odnalazła i zabezpieczyła Armia Radziecka, zwracając je następnie Polsce. Dzisiaj większość zabytków naszej sztuki i architektury powróciła do dawnej świetnosci. Rok rocznie prace konserwatorskie prowadzone są przy kilkuset obiektach. W dziedzinie muzealnictwa i ochrony zabytków zajmujemy obecnie czołowe miejsce w świecie. Zawdzięczamy to nie tylko bogactwu zasobów, ale prawdziwej i głębokiej trosce Państwa Ludowego przeznaczającego systematycznie ogromne sumy na odbudowę i rekonstrukcję słynnych dzieł sztuki, a także ofiarności całego naszego społeczeństwa, dla którego dobra kulturalne należą do największych bogactw, są jego dumą.

MONUMENTS OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE POLISH

The most valuable monuments of Polish architecture , fabulous treasures of national culture were the years of the war and the Nazi occupation systematically looted , burned and destroyed. Invader turned to rubble dozens of historic palaces and castles, hundreds of other objects. In total, in 1939-1940 were destroyed more than 50 percent . the total number of architectural monuments . We owe this not only a wealth of resources, but a true and deep concern the People's State systematically assigning a huge sum for the restoration and reconstruction of the famous works of art, as well as the generosity of our entire society , for which cultural goods are among the greatest treasures are its pride.
