Wojna nie oszczędziła również szkół. Leżały w gruzach, brak było sprzętu i wyposażenia. Dzieci czekały na szkoły, a w niejednej z ocalałych, w takich właśnie warunkach rozpoczynano rok szkolny 1945/46. Fundusze państwowe nie wystarczały - konieczna była pomoc całego społeczeństwa. W końcu 1958 roku I sekretarz KC PZPR -Władyslaw Gomułka wysunął hasło: ,"Wysiłkiem całego narodu zbudujemy tysiąc szkół na tysiąclecie''. Obiegło ono cały kraj i przyniosło w ciągu 7 Iat 8 mld 100 mln zł. We wrześniu 1965 roku oddano do użytku tysięczną szkołę - pomnik 1000-lecia Państwa Polskiego. W tysiącu szkół znalazło się blisko 9200 sal lekcyjnych. 427 nowych szkół powstało w miastach, a 573 na wsiach.

The war did not spare the schools. They lay in ruins, there was a lack of equipment and facilities. Children waiting for the school, and many a survivor, in such conditions started the school year 1945-1946. State funding is not enough - it was necessary to help the whole society. At the end of 1958 years and secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee Wladyslaw Gomulka stepped-password:, "an effort of the whole nation will build a thousand schools in the millennium.'' It went round the whole country and brought within 7 Fiat 8 billion 100 million zł. In September 1965 was put into operation thousandth of a school - a monument to the 1000 anniversary of the Polish State. in a thousand schools were close to 9,200 classrooms. 427 new schools established in cities and 573 villages.
