Title
Ficoroni Cista
            Subject
Jason (Greek mythology)
                     Argonauts (Greek mythology)
            Description
From Palestrina. It is possible that the artist Novios Plautios source for the scene he engraved on this cista was a monumental, mid-4th-century bce Greek painting of the Argonauts by Kydias that seems to have been exhibited in Rome during this time. This may be why Novios tells us in his inscribed signature that he executed this work in Rome.
