Description
Librarian in Buffalo and alumna of the (old) University of Buffalo Library School. Tape of an interview with Van Arsdale, conducted by Brenda K. Shelton, February 27, 1979. Concerns her career, UB library school, mentions Oscar Silverman, Francis Bangs, Ed Sy, Bruce Rogers, Julian Park, Daniel Bell Leary.
Interviewer's Observations: Miss Van Arsdale is badly crippled with arthritis and is no longer able to leave her apartment. It is very difficult for her to move, and she uses a walker. She needs to keep taking sips of water, which she did throughout the interview. Her mind is alert, and she keeps in contact with many of her colleagues. Toward the end of the interview, however, her comments became less focussed and began to ramble about. She also kept talking while I was changing the tape. The sound of a clock ticking is audible throughout. At one point she asked me to get a picture of Dr. Pratt, and also to read some letters from him and a poem he had written. She also showed me one of the bookplates Hogers designed for her.
