Recorded at the University at Buffalo on July 8 and 9, 1968 by Allen De Loach for the Poetry Collection on two Scotch reel-to-reel tapes.
The poems Duncan read, and read portions from, during the seventh and eighth sessions, were "In a Station of the Metro" and "Canto LXXIX" by Ezra Pound. Among the subjects Duncan discussed during the seventh and eighth sessions were Boccaccio, Dante, Pound's Rock-drill section of The Cantos, Hesiod's Theogony, The Old Testament, Pound's essay "Credo" from Pavannes and divisions, Pound's The Spirit of Romance, Joyce's Ulysses, D.H. Lawrence, Henry Miller, Being geniuses together by Robert McAlmon and Kay Boyle, T.S. Eliot, Yeats' The Celtic twilight, Plutarch, the dichotomy of Eliot, Pound, and H.D. leaving America for London as opposed to William Carlos Williams, Marianne Moore, and Wallace Stevens, who all stayed in America, Thomas Hardy, Louis Zukofsky, Basil Bunting, Paul Val??ry, St??phane Mallarm??, Pound's The Pisan Cantos, Pound's imprisonment, Hesiod's Works and Days, anti-Semitism, fascism, anarchy, World War II, Robert Graves, Paul Verlaine, Jewish mysticism in Dante, Mary Shelley, Macbeth, T.E. Hulme's "Autumn," and Robert Bly. Duncan also compared Pound's "In a station of the Metro" to Eliot's "The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock." During the seventh and eighth sessions, the books added to the reading list were Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism by Gershom Scholem, Joseph Karo: Lawyer and Mystic by R.J. Zwi Werblowsky, and The philosophy of "As if" by Hans Vaihinger.
