Recorded at St. George's Church in New York, N.Y. in 1971 by Allen De Loach on three 60 minute Pacific Stereo sound cassettes. The Poetry Collection acquired the recordings from De Loach.
This recording is of a poetry reading held at St. George's Church in New York City in 1971 as a benefit for Bangladesh. Featured poets include: Larry Fagin, Allen Ginsberg, Michael Horovitz, Gregory Corso, Andrei Voznesensky, Peter Orlovsky, Ron Padgett, Ed Sanders, David Shapiro, Anne Waldman, and Kenneth Koch. Highlights of the performances include: Voznesesnky read in Russian and Ginsberg translated, Ginsberg chanted "September on Jessore Road" and "La Ilaha Allahu" while playing harmonium, David Shapiro performed a song by Joseph Joachim on violin, and Kenneth Koch read poems by children in Swaziland.
