Mail art

The front of this white postcard has illustrations in black and white along with a rubber ink stamp. The text is handwritten in turqoise ink. The back of the postcard is adorned with 14 bar code stickers and a rubber ink stamp.

The postcard consists of a collage on the front and a cartoon-style illustrated address side on the back. The front features a black-and-white drawing of two children, surrounded by twelve identical barcode stickers. The text between the barcodes reads “This is not art.” The back is decorated with black ink drawings of three cartoon figures—one holding a sign with the recipient’s address written in blue ink: “John M. Bennett, 137 Leland Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43214.” The upper left includes the sender’s information in blue handwriting: “The Haddock, 1026 N.W. 20th #1, Portland, OR 97210.” A 15-cent Buffalo Bill stamp is affixed in the upper right, postmarked “Portland OR, May 18, 1990.” Additional elements include rubber-stamped illustrations, the text “ART MAGGOTS 1990,” and an orange sticker with a smiling face.
