Great Stupa in Sanchi
Description
This towering stupa was originally constructed in the third century before the Common Era, by the Indian emperor Ashoka. It is India's largest stone structure. What you see here is the result of extensive archaeological research and almosot total reconstruction. Professors Claude Welch and Jeannette Ludwig stand in front of the stupa.
