Title
The Joyces at Rocofoin--Madame Monnier, Adrienne Monnier, Sylvia Beach, James Joyce and M. Monnier
Description
James Joyce and M. Monnier are seated on a slatted wooden bench in front of a brick-framed doorway. Seated on the left, Joyce wears a cap, round glasses, and a dark jacket, while M. Monnier, seated on the right, has a beard, wears a flat cap, a three-piece suit, and holds a cane. Behind them, three people stand closely together. Madame Monnier, on the left, has hands on hips and wears a belted dress with buttons. Adrienne Monnier, standing in the center, wears a blouse and cardigan. Sylvia Beach stands on the right and wears a jacket with a scarf tied at the neck. All five individuals are outdoors, standing in front of a textured wall with some sunlight casting shadows. On verso in Sylvia Beach's handwriting "Adrienne, Madame Monnier & SB | Joyce and M. Monnier | at Rocfoin near Maintenon."
