Title
The Eve of Crecy'
Subject
Watercolor painting--19th century.
English poetry--19th century.
Description
The composition features three elegantly dressed women set against a rich green background. The central figure, with long golden hair and a serene expression, sits or stands with her hands delicately raised to her chest. Her gown, decorated with gold detailing and flowing white fabric, emphasizes her prominence. On either side, two women in matching green dresses hold bunches of white flowers and face slightly toward the center. The symmetrical composition and floral motifs lend a sense of ritual or symbolic reverence. Signed “Margaret Macdonald 1897” in the lower left.
