Love Canal Chemical Waste Landfill (Niagara Falls, N.Y.)

A metal chain-link gate blocks access to a wide, cleared expanse of land. The gate is reinforced with diagonal braces and secured with a lock at the base. Behind the gate, the land appears leveled and barren, with no vegetation, and stretches toward a line of trees in the distance under a clear blue sky. A small can is visible on the pavement near the curb in front of the gate.
