Used for viewing small organisms not visible to the naked eye
Metal microscope, which is taller and heavier than most microscopes. Manufactured in 1884, it represents perhaps the height of microscope design and craftmanship in England.
A polished brass microscope is shown against a light background. The instrument features a tall cylindrical body tube with a large focusing knob on the side and multiple objective lenses mounted on a rotating nosepiece. It has a mechanical stage with adjustment controls, several fine and coarse focus knobs, and a circular mirror mounted beneath the stage. The microscope stands on a three-legged brass base with angled supports.
