Title
Indian citizens bathing and washing, banks of Ganges
Description
The Ganges not only is the most sacred river for Hindus, but serves more mundane functions as a major source of water and place for doing laundry. This picture shows early morning bathers carrying out ritual functions and a woman preparing laundry for washing -- done by beating the clothes on rocks, then spreading them in the sun to dry.
