Title
Entrance to Ajanta caves
Description
These 'caves' [similar to the close-by 'caves' at Ellora] were sculpted starting in the second century. Given their quality as examples of Buddhist monumental art, they were honored as a World Heritage Site in 1983. Many of the figures were painted, and traces of pigment remain in isolated areas.
