Massive stupa, Bodh Gaya
Description
Bodh Gaya is known around the world as the place where the Buddha achieved enlightenment [nirvana]. The attached Mahabodhi temple and near-by bodhi tree [under which Gautama received enlightenment] are the site for thousands of Buddhist pilgrims annually. The site was excavated late in the 19th century, and has been carefully restored.
