Title
The great temple of Khajuraho
Description
This World Heritage site group of monuments was built over the span of about two centuries. Sandstone is used, without mortar at the joints
instead, mortise and tenon joints, plus the weight of the stones themselves, keep the monuments intact. After 1150 or so, they fell into disrepair, and became covered with vegetation. Excavation and restoration began late in the 19th century, and continue to this day.
