Title
Displaced statue of King George V
Description
This huge sculpture originally stood under the canopy of 'India Gate.' [See another slide for this structure.] The India Gate itself was built in the early 1920s to honor Indian soldiers who died in imperial wars such as in Afghanistan and World War I. The designer was Sir Edward Lutyens, architect of New Delhi as a whole. Following India's independence, the statue was removed from its place of prominence at one end of the Rajpath. It now can be found in a desolate resting place for similar statues well outside the city, on the flood plain.
