Title
Taj Mahal, morning
Description
Built as a tomb for his beloved spouse, Mumtaz Mahal, this white marble structure practically bankrupted Mughal India. Emperor Shah Jahan had thousands of laborers work a dozen years on the mausoleum alone, finishing in 1643. Additional outbuilding took another decade. According to Wikipedia's entry, "The total cost of construction has been estimated to be about 32 million Rupees at that time which now runs into trillions of Dollars if converted to present currency rates."
