The noted French philosopher Rousseau was born just outside France, in the Swiss canton and city of Geneva. The home of his birth is currently the site of one of the city's largest department stories. Rousseau is known for such philosophical concepts as the General Will, his theories on education and ideas that influenced the subsequent French and socialist revolutions. In his "Confessions", Rousseau is said to have invited the concept of autobiography.
