Title
Threatening sky over the belfry
Description
One of three medieval constructions that tower over Ghent, the belfry was constructed in 1313 and finished in 1380, with a golden dragon brought from Bruges crowning the top of the spire. The hall attached to the belfry was used throughout history as a meeting hall for local militias, a jail, and even a fencing academy.
