Title
Over Antwerp
Description
Located on the River Scheldt, Antwerp has the second largest port in Europe and was the birthplace of Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens. Due to its policy of religious tolerance, Antwerp became home to a significant Orthodox Jewish population in the 1500s. Culture shifted from Antwerp to Amsterdam after the Protestant Reformation due to economic downturn in Antwerp.
