Title
Wooden gears, old Dutch windmill
            Description
Nearly half of the Netherlands lies a yard or less above sea level, with one-eighth of the country actually below it. Reclaiming potentially rich agricultural land from the sea and keeping the polders dry for agriculture or urban development rank at the top of the Dutch agenda. Almost all pumping is now carried out by pumps powered by electricity rather than wind. However, in order to conserve resources, the Dutch government has invested heavily in renewable forms of energy.
