Title
Muslim women, Granada
Description
When Granada fell in 1492, the Muslims of Spain were systematically converted, killed, and forced into hiding by Isabella and Ferdidand. In 1609, King Phillip banished all converts from Islam -known as Moriscoes - from Spain. Most ended up in North Africa. It makes one wonder about the struggles and identity conflict of the women pictured. Are they pilgrims? Residents of Granada? What is their story, and how do they connect to the past?
