Międzynarodowe Targi w Poznaniu organizowane są od 44 lat, ale historyczne ich tradycje sięgają XIII-XIV wieku. Jak głoszą zachowane z tamtego okresu dokumenty, przybywający do grodu Przemysława kupcy mieli szereg przywilei, zwalniani byli od cła. Zawierano transakcje na ogromne ilości skór futerkowych, tkanin lnianych, konopi, miodu, bydła. Pierwsze MTP odbyły się w r. 1925 z udzialem 11 krajów (eksponaty zajmowały powierzchnię 29.000 m² ). Ale naprawdę szeroki rozwój Targów nastąpił dopiero po wojnie. Poznan stał się bardzo ważnym punktem wymiany towarowej pomiędzy Wschodem a Zachodem. Np. w lym roku powierzchnia wystawowa zajmowała już 111.000 m² , a w Targach - uczestniczyło 60 państw z Europy, Afryki, Ameryki, Azji, Australii i Oceanii.
