Pines and oaks on the hills behind Poland's seaport frame a typical bit of
Gdynia. In the foreground are railroad tracks and office buildings, in
the background the inner harbor behind its breakwater with ships lying
outside waiting to berth. Through the gate in the breakwater flows most
of Poland's foreign trade, carried to or from the coast by the new rail
lines from the coal basins, the industrial towns and the ancient cities of the interior.
