This recording is of the first of the three lectures and one poetry reading given by Michael McClure as part of the Charles Olson Memorial Lectures at the University at Buffalo. This lecture was titled "Scratching the Beat surface." It focused on the Beat generation of poets, poetry and biology, and contemporary American poets that were influenced by poets such as Olson. The other lectures may be found on PCF108B, PCF109A and PCF109B in the Poetry Collection's digitized audio collection.
