Title
[Poetry reading on the radio show Anthology] / Allen Ginsberg.
Description
Recorded in March 1968 by Allen De Loach on a 7 inch Scotch reel-to-reel tape. De Loach recording acquired by the Poetry Collection.
Allen Ginsberg appeared on the radio program Anthology hosted by Harry Mannis in March 1968. Ginsberg opened by singing the "Hare Krishna" mantra, then read poems from Planet news (1968), and concluded by singing the "Maitreya" mantra. After reading "News of death," Ginsberg spoke of William Carlos Williams and his town of Paterson, N.J. Ginsberg introduced the poem "Waking in New York" by talking about New York Governor Rockefeller's drug laws. Before reading "Holy Ghost on the nod over the body of bliss" Ginsberg said: "This is like a poem which names all the different gods and says they are one."
