Recorded at the Allentown Community Center in Buffalo, New York on December 12, 1974 by Allen De Loach on a 120 minute Tracs sound cassette. Recording was acquired by the Poetry Collection.

Reading opens with an introduction by Robert Creeley, who discusses Ludwig Wittgenstein: a memoir by Norman Malcolm and Street & Smith magazines. Fielding Dawson then reads the essay "On writing jokes, the short stories The Messiah and The Messiah (2)", and closes by reading excerpts from the memoir Tiger lilies. Among the subjects Dawson discusses throughout the reading are Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, the essay "Fielding Dawson's 'Certain overflow willingness' " by Charlotte Gafford in the July 1974 issue of The Iowa review, autobiographical writing, fiction as a more egotistical form than memoir, Mabel: a story by Creeley, An emotional memoir of Franz Kline, The Black Mountain book, the suggestion from Ted Berrigan to "write a book about Charles Olson", You & me by Seymour Krim, The master of Ballantrae by Robert Louis Stevenson, A coffin for Dimitrios by Eric Ambler, Wittgenstein, The house of the dead by Fyodor Dostoevsky, D.H. Lawrence, and Ed Sanders.
