Title
[Poetry reading in Vancouver, B.C., 1971] / J.H. Prynne.
Description
Recorded in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 30, 1971 and August 1, 1971 on a 7 inch Scotch reel-to-reel tape.
These two poetry readings by J.H. Prynne were held in Vancouver, B.C. on July 30 and August 1, 1971. Prynne provides commentary throughout the readings. Among the subjects discussed are Resurrection by Tolstoy, Aristeas, The consolation of philosophy by Boethius, Paul Celan, P.B. Shelley, and inventor Charles Babbage. Among the most insightful comments were those Prynne made about his own first book, Kitchen poems (1968): "The first thing I thought I'd read you is a poem from a series of poems, which I call Kitchen poems, basically because they were all composed in other people's kitchens, which is a good place to write poems, firstly because one is free of certain kinds of distractions like the Oxford English Dictionary in fifteen volumes ..." Also notable are Prynne's comments on Celan.
