Description
Recorded at the University at Buffalo on November 17, 1970 by Allen De Loach on a 7 inch Scotch reel-to-reel tape.
This poetry reading by Allen Ginsberg was held at the University at Buffalo on November 17, 1970. Gregory Corso provided the introduction: "How fitting it is for me to introduce to you our poet tonight. We first met twenty years ago in a tiny Greenwich Village Bar called the Pony Stable." Ginsberg sang a selection from William Blake's Songs of innocence and of experience while playing harmonium, read his own poems, chanted mantras, and played an audio message from Timothy Leary, who was a fugitive at the time. When Ginsberg sang Blake's "Spring," he changed the last word of the refrain "Merrily Merrily to welcome in the Year" to the words "Apocalypse," "End of Earth," "the phantom," and other replacements.
