Title
[Poetry reading at the Creative Arts Festival, Kent State University, April 1974] / Joanne Kyger.
Description
Recorded at the Creative Arts Festival at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio in April 1974 on a 7 inch BASF reel-to-reel tape. Recorded by Robert J. Bertholf, while serving as Professor of English and organizer of the Creative Arts Festival at Kent State University. Recording was donated to the Poetry Collection at the University at Buffalo, where Bertholf subsequently served as Curator.
At her reading, Joanne Kyger read all of her long poem "Trip out & fall back." This was followed by a reading of a selection of short poems, most of which are uncollected, one of which is an early version, and some of which are in the 1968-1974 section of About now: collected poems (2007). Kyger mentioned that the one-line poem that reads "Reality is for those who can't cope with drugs" was "bathroom wall writing."
