Mail art

The front of this mail art white postcard, created by Haddock, has illustrations in black and white of two children along with a rubber ink stamp surrounded by twelve identical barcode stickers. The text between the barcodes reads “This is not art. In addition, the postcard consists of a collage on the front and a cartoon-style illustrated address side on the back. The text is handwritten in turquoise ink. The back of the postcard is adorned with 14 bar code stickers and a rubber ink stamp. The back is decorated with black ink drawings of three cartoon figures—one holding a sign with the recipient’s address written in blue ink: “John M. Bennett, 137 Leland Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43214.” The upper left includes the sender’s information in blue handwriting: “The Haddock, 1026 N.W. 20th #1, Portland, OR 97210.” A 15-cent Buffalo Bill stamp is affixed in the upper right, postmarked “Portland OR, May 18, 1990.” Additional elements include rubber-stamped illustrations, the text “ART MAGGOTS 1990,” and an orange sticker with a smiling face.
