Subject

Description
Multiple mail art items enclosed in a blue decorated airmail envelope stamped in black and red ink with white, blue and gold labels, UK postage stamps and a line drawing in red ink mailed from the Institute of Fatuous Research in England to John M. Bennett in Columbus, Ohio, dated February 6, 1991. The first element in the mail art envelope is a letter written in red marker on white stationery, stamped with black ink, and signed "O. Jason" next to a red line drawing of a stylized human face. The second insert in the envelope is a collage-like collection of illustrated mail art pieces and labels from the Institute of Fatuous Research, including the “Fatuous Book of Love” flyer, “Mutant Baby Post” stamps, and two gold labels with the printed black text “Play Time For Ever." Interspersed within these collected mail art pieces is a typed and handwritten memorandum from the Institute of Fatuous Research to John M. Bennett, dated May 1, 1991, with a note from O. Jason inviting him to contribute to the “Fatuous Book of Love.” The back of the red and blue-bordered airmail envelope containing the entire mail art piece has a return address label from the Institute of Fatuous Research and a red fingerprint mark. Mail art recipient: John M. Bennett.
