Title
Cow wandering down urban street
Description
Cows are considered sacred in Hinduism, and hence are not killed for meat. (Muslims and some Dalits do consume beef, however.) Cows have received protection under the Indian Constitution and a variety of laws. Electoral battles have frequently erupted over cattle, with Hindu nationalist parties the strongest supporters of protection.
