Crop land devastated by tsunami
Description
About 250,000 were killed by a massive wave, tDecember 26, 2004. An earthquake off Sumatra triggered a tsunami affecting the entire Indian Ocean. Coastal communities were largely destroyed. Farmlands were submerged by salt water, affecting their fertility. These fields in southern Tamil Nadu did not produce their full harvests, thereby impoverishing local farmers.
