Sylvia Beach and James Joyce seated at a desk in a book-filled room. Sylvia Beach, seated on the left wears a collared shirt with a tie and a jacket, facing James Joyce, who is dressed in a dark suit with a polka-dot bow tie and wears a black eye patch over the right eye. Stacks of paper and an old-fashioned telephone occupy the desk in front of them. Behind them, books fill shelves, and two posters are prominently displayed. One poster includes the headline “The Scandal of Ulysses,” and the other features the name “Arnold Bennett.” The image has visible creases and damage.
