Monnier on the right, leaning back, and James Joyce on the left, resting an arm on the bench’s backrest. There is a plant growing near the wall on the right side of the frame. On verso in Sylvia Beach's handwriting "Joyce and M. Monnier | at Rocfoin near Maintenon."
