A vintage postcard labeled “61. – MAINTENON (E.-et-L.) La Rue de la Ferté – Vue prise du Pont” shows a quiet cobblestone street in Maintenon, France, viewed from a bridge. Several people are seen leaning over the bridge railing, fishing or observing the water below. A covered horse-drawn cart moves along the street, which is lined with buildings featuring dormer windows and steeply pitched roofs. Trees partially obscure parts of the view, adding to the scene's tranquil and historic atmosphere. The photograph is credited to G. Foucaud, a publisher in Dreux. The postcard is a cover of a portfolio of photographs of the Joyces with Adrienne Monnier and her family. Captions are in Sylvia Beach's handwriting.
