Large reading room with high ceilings and elaborate classical architectural details, including carved panels, decorative molding, and a frieze depicting figures holding garlands. The room contains rows of long wooden tables equipped with slanted bookstands, where numerous people are seated and reading. Two archways, flanked by bookshelves and topped with decorative pediments, lead to another section of the building. A gallery with turned balusters runs along the upper level. Signs reading “Silence is requested” are placed on the tables.
