James Joyce with Nora, Lucia and unidentified little girl at table in garden

On verso in Maria Jolas's handwriting "In clearing out some old papers | I found an undeveloped negative | which turned out to be this | M. J. (April 1968) | It was probably taken in Austria | (terrace of the Schloss at Feldkirk [Feldkirch]?) | in 1932, and I imagine the photo- | graph was taken by Mathilde, the nurse who accompanied Lucia at that time. The other figures, of | course, are the servant and her child. | The three Joyces are good likenesses. But | how sad they all look!"
