Title
The escutcheon of Town Lwów
Description
A carved stone relief features three distinct heraldic elements side by side. On the left is a shield topped by three ornate crowns and flanked by crossed keys, flags, and grape clusters. In the center, a large eagle with spread wings holds a crescent moon and star on its chest, accompanied by two sculpted human figures, each holding a round shield. Below the eagle is an inscribed plaque in Latin, partially reading “IOANNIS III POLONIARUM REGIS.” On the right is a circular laurel wreath encircling a castle gate with three towers and a rearing lion, possibly a city emblem. Above is a plaque reading “ODNOWIONO ROKU 1850,” indicating restoration in 1850. The overall style suggests commemorative or civic significance, likely Polish or Lithuanian.
