The staunch citizens of Geneva annually celebrate repelling an attack on the city by soldiers of  Catholic Savoy. The title 'Escalade' refers to an unsuccessful attempt by the attackers to scale the city's walls. This entire family has decided to participate.

In most European countries, heavy baked tiles are used on roofs instead of shingle. They have the advantage of rarely if ever needing replacement. Hence, save in cases of new construction, it is rare to see an already-finished home like this being retiled.
